Providing inclusive access at your sports venue is of paramount importance. Your customers, volunteers and staff expect to have equal and functional access to your facilities.
A ramp may not always be feasible due to the length required to achieve the recommended gradient. The Accessible Stadia Guide recommends platform lifts (or passenger lifts) as the appropriate form of transferring between the various levels in a stadium.
A Platform Lift can therefore offer the ideal solution to improving accessibility at your venue. It can help you to meet the requirements of The Equality Act (2010) and Part M of the Building Regulations.
What to consider when choosing a platform lift
First-time buyers may find it difficult to account for all of the different considerations when choosing a platform lift. Terry Lifts have created a basic 10-step Platform Lift buying guide which gives a brief overview of the process.
Terry Lifts’ platform lifts are quick to install, although some preparatory works are required depending on the location of the lift. However, we can provide you with a quote for this or you may choose to organise this yourself.
A platform lift such as the Melody 1 or Melody 3 minimises the necessary building works due to not requiring a lift pit. A fixed and integral ramp is provided as standard for each model respectively. They offer a safe and cost-effective solution to the access problems at your venue.
Selecting the right provider
It is important to choose a lift that complies with the relevant standards, e.g. BS6440:2011. It specifies the requirements for the design, manufacture and installation of vertical unenclosed lifting platforms and ensures the safety of your product.
You should also select a lift provider who are a member of LEIA (Lift & Escalator Industry Association). This ensures that you will be dealing with a fully ISO9001 certificated provider who have signed the association’s Code of Practice. LEIA members will also be certificated to ISO18001 covering Health & Safety.
Terry Lifts are a UK-based manufacturer who meet these requirements and have over 45 years of experience in the lift industry.
