The Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) has welcomed the announcement made by the Minister for Sport Tracey Crouch, to carry out an analysis of evidence relating to the all-seater policy. The external analysis will be commissioned by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, once the scope has been defined in conjunction with the Sports Grounds Safety Authority. The analysis will look at what evidence already exists and assess its reliability, identify any important gaps in the data, and recommend the best ways of filling them.
The all-seater policy has served spectators well for over 25 years. Grounds are more modern with better facilities and improved safety management practices have helped transform spectator safety throughout the country.
Karen Eyre-White, Chief Executive, SGSA said
We welcome the Government commissioning an analysis of the evidence. We must never be complacent about spectator safety and an evidence-based approach is essential to ensure that any subsequent changes to the policy are carefully considered.
Spectator safety is our priority and we look forward to working with the Government and all stakeholders and providing our technical expertise on this important issue.
