Newton Abbott Racecourse aims to become the number one summer jump race course and to this end plans to extend facilities have been submitted for consideration by planners.
The racecourse is looking to extend its first floor to form a new trainers and owners lounge at the site. Teignbridge District Council has set a target of deciding the plans by the end of May. The plans have been drawn up by Workshop Architecture and Design.
The design and access statement said:
The style of the architecture is simple, elegant and balanced in its form. Careful attention has been paid to the use of high quality, durable and maintenance friendly materials, to ensure longevity of the proposed development in terms of appearance and to help raise the quality and profile of the racecourse.
The racecourse has huge ambitions to compete as the number one Summer Jump Racecourse in the UK and we believe this facility will go some way to help achieving that goal.
Newton Abbott Racecourse in Devon first hosted races in 1866 and had its grandstand was opened by the Queen Mother in 1969.
