Leicester City Council recently approved the club’s plans to redevelop the ground’s aging Clubhouse Stand and workmen have begun the preparation for the major modernisation scheme.
Currently, the temporary stands hold 992 supporters, with 28 seats for disabled fans and their assistants.
The Leicester Mercury reports that the Leicester Tigers will increase that to 3,100, with 62 disabled seats taking Welford Road’s stadium capacity up to 26,000.
Masterplan submitted for Olympic Legacy Park
A masterplan for a 26 acre, multi-million London 2012 Olympic legacy project in Sheffield has been submitted. A multi-purpose 3,000 seat indoor community sports and events arena, community artificial pitch and cycle ways will all form part of the OLP. The Olympic-standard twin-pad iceSheffield, English Institute of Sport Sheffield and Grass Bowl are all within OLP’s boundaries.
Rt Hon Richard Caborn, the project lead, said:
This will be a hugely exciting and innovative project bringing together world-class health, education and sport facilities in a unique and cutting-edge environment.
A planning application is anticipated for the Northern Ireland stadium but safety concerns have been expressed.
