The Accessible Sports Grounds Bill [HL] 2015-16 is moving through its parliamentary stages towards Royal Assent. The essentials of the bill are: A local authority may refuse to issue a safety certificate under section 1 of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 (safety certificates for large sports stadia) where it considers or it has been advised by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority that the ground does not comply with the “Accessible Stadia” 5 guidelines published by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority and as amended from time to time.
This will involve a change to safety certificates as below:
Safety certificates: accessibility condition
In section 2 of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 (contents of safety certificates), after subsection (1) insert— 10
“(1A) A safety certificate shall contain a condition that the sports ground must comply with the “Accessible Stadia” guidelines published by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.”
